Our 5-yr-old was purchased as a yearling at the Doncaster Sales by John Best, our trainer, in association with Highflyer Bloodstock. He is a beautiful chestnut horse with four white legs - so we called him 'SOX'. He was named for racing following a vote by his owners in 2005: Prince of Medina.
He was a joy to break and train and showed a lot of confidence at a young age. It is important to let a young horse develop and grow and mature to give it the best opportunity for a long racing career. G G Racing and John Best Racing are committed above all else to the well-being of the horses and we will not rush a horse's development for short term gains. Sox was given three runs on the turf before going on a winter's break. He came back bigger and stronger but with the same laid back attitude. He proved very green when racing although still managed to pick up an unexpected 2nd in spite of doing everything he could to lose! He has taken time to learn but it finally seems that the penny has dropped and he is showing much interest on the gallops. He finally lost his maiden tag in December and started the new year with a 2nd place. We are looking forward to the coming months when we will campaign him over the all-weather and then onto the turf for the summer. He runs over 1m5 furlongs+.
SOX is a real softy and is followed by a band of besotted owners, many of which purchased him as a yearling. He loves nothing more than a cuddle and fuss whenever anyone visits the stables and is very calm and laid back on his race days, giving his owners much pleasure and excitement.
