WE HAVE LEFT THE PAGE UP FOR INFORMATION FOR HIS FANS
Willhego was bought at the Tattersalls yearling sales in 2002 by G G Racing in consultation with John Best, our trainer, and Highflyer Blookstock. We had been impressed by the winning ways of the Pivotal offspring and this has continued over the years, they now include 50 winners of stakes races and over £12 million. We were advised at the time of purchase that he would need time to grow and strengthen, he was therefore not rushed but allowed to mature naturally. Our patience paid off and he was rated 85 at his peak. Following a leg injury he was kept off racing for about a year but he has returned now with renewed vigour and we are looking forward to much excitement this winter.
He is not the easiest of horses to handle on race day as he finds the whole thing very exciting. John and his staff have devised a way of handling him that ensures he reaches the start as calm as possible. Sometimes his owners are kept on the edge of their seats for the wrong reasons but he never plays up for the sake of it and generally it is only over excitement, once he gets into the race he will always give us his best and he likes to win. On return he loves to be centre of attention and behaves well in the winners' enclosure. One of Willie's faults, if you can call it a fault, is trying too hard and in his last race where he finished 3rd this resulted in a pulled ligament. He has recovered but we felt that it was too much of a risk to return him to race training as he over exerts himself in races. We made the difficult decision to retire him and we hope that he will be re-trained in time and given another challenge in life - but for the present he is enjoying a well earned rest and settling in time with his new owner.
